It's kind of like that old classic Lego set that you might still have stacked away. It's always good fun when you bring it back out and see what new shapes you can build. The Mindstorms set will have a similar effect, but better - you'll never store it away in the basement, it will always be kept in sight - ready to be drawn away and played with again and again.. It's a hefty price for a Christmas present, but as a gift you can go on using again and again into your old age, the Lego Mindstorms NXT completely lives up to the price tag. You don't need any extra equipment though like Meccano, with Mindstorms you just need your hands... and a PC. A sound sensor, that allows for the robot to react to several volumes of sound, although you can't get it to obey precise vocal instructions. 4. An echo sensor, which utilizes sound-beams and sound echos to find out how far away the robot is from an object, so it can avoid it or move around it. The NXT Intelligent Brick Your robot's central processing unit, a tiny computer-like device that you program and depending on what programming you put in, instructs one, two or all three of the motors to begin movement, whether in the form of your robot catching something, running to hide under the bed, attacking an intruder..... and so on and so forth.
